The term “anti-aging” has been ubiquitous in marketing for decades. But why should we be “anti” something that’s all-natural?
When it comes to aging, we live in a world of contradictions. We are shamed if we do not want to accept the signs of premature aging and invest in skin care, treatments or aesthetic procedures to improve or even eliminate our wrinkles. Yet, we are also criticized if we decide to accept our wrinkles and age naturally.
This contradiction is even more pronounced in the limelight of celebrity. Madonna is judged every time she gets a lift. Kristin Davis of "And Just Like That" is harshly criticized for getting injections, while Sarah Jessica Parker, who embraces her gray hair and natural look, is mocked for her gray streaks and wrinkles. Judged if they do, judged if they don't.
Social media amplifies this paradox even more and can be a trap of instant pressure and judgment. On one side are the anti-aging enthusiasts, who refuse to let time and gravity mark their skin with filters, touch-ups, and seemingly perfect, wrinkle-free complexions. On the other side are the natural aging advocates who advocate self-acceptance and wrinkle-loving, and encourage embracing the natural signs of aging. It’s no surprise that many of us feel like we’re walking a tightrope trying to find the right balance. Judged if we do, judged if we don’t.
Enough of all this...
However you approach the visible changes that life, age, and environment leave on your skin, it’s up to you. Maybe you’re a firm believer in cosmetic procedures and proud of your wrinkles. Those fine lines are a testament to all the times you’ve laughed and lived life to the fullest, and you wouldn’t trade them for smooth, teenage skin. Good for you. Or maybe you appreciate a little Botox, a few strategically placed injections, or a professional touch-up every now and then to feel fresher. Who says you have to look your age if you don’t want to? Nobody.
At Leaf Cosmetics, our philosophy of aging is free of judgment, shame, guilt, and criticism. We don’t want to scare you into thinking aging is something you have to fight, or make you feel guilty if you don’t want to love your wrinkles.
We simply say: do what feels right for you.
